The ideal American middle-class woman during the mid-1950s turned out either to be the excellent wife or played the role of a mother or a hostess or volunteer with complete ease. As a matter of fact, in 1952, Simone de Beauvoir’s – The Second Sex vehemently showed glimpses of biases directed at women.
